Background
Since 2004, an emergency medical services organization has used a highly customized version of Microsoft Dynamics GP, with many ISV’s and standalone applications. Over time, GP was no longer managing the organization’s highly complex pricing, rebates, and commission processes with large volumes of transactions, and did not provide them with an enterprise-wide data and analytics strategy. The organization is heavily regulated – they must ensure items are sold only to authorized customers. They also needed a solution which would allow for scalability, innovation, reporting, integration, reduce ISV reliance, and customization. These issues, along with the impending retirement of GP, drove the company to look at replacing GP.
Solution
The organization is a 15+ year client of Velosio. The original relationship started with Microsoft Dynamics GP support in 2008. Velosio recommended that the organization upgrade their GP solution to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management.
One division was the first in the family of companies to upgrade to D365 Finance and Supply Chain Management in October of 2023. Another division, currently running D365 Business Central, is the next to upgrade, with a project underway now. All three remaining business units currently run Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, with plans to upgrade.
Results
With the pending retirement of Microsoft Dynamics GP, the large organization benefitted from upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management to drive scalability and more. The modern solution provides an application framework to run all companies under one enterprise application and provide for expansion through organic growth and acquisition and:
Consolidated, inter-company with a faster
close process
Eliminated many ISVs and standalone
applications
Ability to globally expand and acquire
Added enterprise-wide data and analytics
strategy
Integrate with several point solutions
Better managing highly regulated business
Ensures order accuracy
Better managing highly complex pricing,
rebates and commissions process with large
sales volume
Future Plans
As additional companies within the organization deploy Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, additional modules are planned for phase two. Intercompany transactions, inventory kitting, and advanced warehousing are planned, as well as moving Fixed Assets from Sage to Dynamics 365. Cash forecasting, finance insights and data and additional data and analytics are planned as well as moving from reporting to additional analytics, building out Azure Data Lake Services with semantic layers to connect other Microsoft Dynamics tools.
There is a future plan to engage in an enterprise-wide data and analytics platform using the Microsoft Fabric framework.
